Textile engineer — Head of Dyeing & Development

I have spent my whole career on the factory side of clothing — dyeing fabric, fixing faults and deciding whether a fabric is good enough to ship. This site is where I explain that work to the people who end up wearing it.

What I do

I work in a fabric dyeing operation, where my job is to make sure dyed fabric comes out the right color, the right hand-feel and the right quality. Day to day that means building dye recipes, approving shades against buyer standards, developing new knit fabrics, applying functional finishes, and tracing the cause when a batch fails — uneven dyeing, poor color fastness, shrinkage, low bursting strength or pilling.

Those same faults are the problems people search for at home: a T-shirt that shrank, a black hoodie that faded, a sweater that pilled after three wears. I know where they start, because I have had to solve them before the fabric ever reached a shop.

Career

  1. 2012B.Sc. in Textile Engineering, specialising in Wet Processing Technology (Dyeing), University of Chittagong.
  2. 2012 – 2017Production Officer, then Senior Production Officer in dyeing production — running dye batches, controlling process quality and advising other departments.
  3. 2017 – 2026Head of Dyeing & Development — fabric development, dye recipes, shade approval and functional finishes.

I also founded TOZAHIDA, a clothing label in Australia, which keeps me close to what customers notice once a garment is on sale.

How I write these guides

  • From the fabric outward. Every guide starts with the fiber, yarn and finish, because that is what decides comfort, durability, shrinkage and color hold.
  • With numbers where they exist. When a guide quotes shrinkage, color fastness or a pilling grade, it names the test method and the sample. See how we test.
  • Without sponsors. No brand pays for a mention or a rating. See the editorial policy.

Areas of expertise

Reactive and disperse dyeing; color fastness to washing, rubbing and light; shrinkage and dimensional stability; pilling and abrasion; knit fabric construction and GSM; enzyme, softener and functional finishes; and everyday garment care.
